FLOMO is a proud sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic, located in Paterson and Passaic, NJ, respectively. The organization creates after-school and summer programming to enrich and uplift “young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances”.

For 2020 and 2021, the Boys and Girls Club shifted their programming to full-day in-person services to support their communities while in-person elementary and middle school classes were not in session due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Club celebrated the end of a challenging school year for Club Kids with a “Neighborhood Block Party”.

The FLOMO team donated party supplies including paper dinnerware, decorations, balloons, and graduation banners to celebrate the students’ achievements.

Meet the Product Department: Janet and Tina are the innovators, and bring new products to life

How does FLOMO fill its showroom, warehouse and retailers’ shelves and displays with more than 6,000 products?  By innovating and continuing to create and source new, contemporary items.

Janet and Tina are FLOMO’s Product Development experts, bringing a variety of consumer good experience to their creative roles.

“Product managers are the center of the development process when it comes to new products,” said Janet.  “We search, source, gather pricing and samples, and present product lines to our CEO for planning.  And then to customers for reviews.”

Janet and Tina recently worked on developing a substantial stationary line of journals and sketchbooks, and also a multi-phase production of arts and crafts supplies, which includes kids craft sets.

“It’s something new everyday, it is never the same,” noted Janet.  “We work with all departments within FLOMO, from Imports to Finance, as well as vendors and our support team in Shanghai.  We also provide sales presentations to support our reps in house and in the field, and sales tools to sell the goods.”

For FLOMO to remain a go-to brand for everything you need to celebrate, stationery, education, holiday, arts & crafts, gifts, fitness products and more, the product department has to anticipate trends and always be ready to create the next best thing.

“[The idea for] a new product may come from a customer request,” said Janet, who looks for inspiration everywhere.

Tina, who also works on extensive line of seasonal products, says creativity is a key factor the department’s success, as well as the importance of keeping up with trends.

Creativity is vital, yet there are very scientific skills needed in quickly developing solid products at attractive prices.  One needs to have a strong background in math, logistics and time-management.

And not too many jobs can see a concept from start to finish as much as the product developers.

If the buzz word of the year is “pivot,” my team and I at FLOMO are masters of pirouettes.

FLOMO CEO Wendy Shen was honored to enter the 2020 WBENCPitch Pivot competition under the category of 'Survive and Thrive'.

According to WBENC's website, the competition was "designed to highlight women entrepreneurs who have pivoted their businesses and stepped outside of the box to create or offer products, services, and solutions that fill supply chain gaps during the COVID-19 crisis.". WBEs like FLOMO submitted 90 second pitches detailing how their companies pivoted to present essentials and more for COVID-19. Finalists received grant funding up to $100,000.

Shen spoke on the panel on Being Adventurous, a discussion on ways to scale businesses beyond its borders. On November 30, 2019, FLOMO in partnership with our Taiwanese office and chairman Mr. Shen and his wife held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new art installation commission. The installation, located at the FLOMO headquarters in Tainan, Taiwan, is a sculpture piece by renowned Taiwanese artist Wang Wenzhi called "照亮夢想", translating to "Light Up Your Dreams".

The eco-friendly metal sculpture encompasses much of the building and features 5 flower-like shapes which light up brilliantly at night - one for each of the Shen children. Wenzhi and Mr. Shen aimed to create a piece that would inspire Taiwanese ingenuity and innovation.

On November 29, 2019, FLOMO/Nygala Corp partnered with our nonprofit foundation arm, the FLOMO Education Foundation, to donate to CEO/President Wendy Shen's alma mater, the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. The grant will be used to promote a multi-language teacher training program.

Shen spoke at a presentation regarding the donation. Of the university and FLOMO Education Foundation's partnership, she said, "Wenzao Ursuline University of Languagesis not only the best institution to cultivate foreign language professors, but also focuses on creating well-developed students in moral, intellectual, physical aspects, so that students can do their best in the workplace after they graduate. Our alumni include quite a few business executives or leaders, and they have been making outstanding contributions to our society! The FLOMO Education Foundation and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages share a common philosophy, and both parties are doing their best to promote English language education. The best period for children’s language education begins from an early age."

The FLOMO Education Foundation, founded by Mr. and Mrs. Shen of Tainan, Taiwan (founders of the FLOMO group of companies and parents to our CEO, pictured above with Wendy and a representative of the university), aims to educate underprivileged children in rural areas of Taiwan in both English-language classes as well as morals like respect, family honor, and kindness through the "FLOMO After School Program". In addition, the 'Family Learning English" campaign focuses on the entire family's wellbeing and education to empower the citizens of Taiwan.

6 Habits of Successful Seasonal Buyers

With holiday buying season ramping up, now is the time to make sure you are avoiding the pitfalls that could lead to a holiday selling season that falls short of your (and your boss’s) high expectations. To assist you in making sure this holiday season will be one to remember, we have compiled six habits of successful seasonal buyers. How many of these habits do you incorporate into your buying process?

Habit #1 – Making sure merchandise is displayed correctly: Once your purchase order has been submitted, your work is not done. Successful buyers know that one of the keys to a high sell through is how the products you purchased are displayed.
